Find below the most frequently asked questions about the Hydro Industries range of automatic rewinding hose reels.
Please, note: orders will not be shipped to P.O. Box addresses.
1.Can the Hydro Industries' auto rewind hose reel handle uneven or rough surfaces?
Yes, the auto rewind function is not affected by hilly or rocky surfaces. The smooth, steady action of the rewind function works well in all types of gardens and on a range of surfaces (pebbles, rocks, pumice). While it's not necessary, it's always advisable to pull the hose out in as straight a line as possible, and to place the hose nozzle or sprayer near the hose reel unit.
2.Does my hose reel require a special hose or attachment to the faucet?
No, Hydro Industries' automatic hose reels work with standard outdoor faucets and garden hoses of 1/2" (12.5 mm) or 5/8" ( 16 mm) in diameter. It is highly recommended to use VINYL garden hoses for best performance.
3.Does the hose reel work with rubber garden hoses?
Yes, but as the diameter of the rubber hose is usually larger than that of a regular vinyl hose, there may be a negative effect on the capacity of the hose reel. Pulling out and rewinding a new rubber hose a few times will improve the holding capacity of the hose reel.
4.How do I install Hydro Industries' auto rewind hose reel?
Please find a detailed instructions manual for each model in the hose reels section of this website.
5.My hose reel is leaking; what should I do?
a. Make sure connectors are tightly and correctly attached.
b. Make sure no rubber washers are missing in any of the connectors.
6.My hose reel is not rewinding; what should I do?
a. Ensure tap is open.
b. Make sure handle is in the full "REWIND" position.
c. Make sure there are no obstacles stopping the garden hose.
d. Check that water pressure is not exceptionally low (you can consult the local utility company, or, if you have the means to measure- the minimum pressure should not be lower than 35 psi/ 2.5 bars).
e. Make sure water flow in the exit hose is not hindered (e.g. by kinked hoses).
f. After all of the above have been checked, put handle in REST position, pull garden hose approx. 3' / 1m, and restart your hose reel.
7.My hose reel is rewinding very slowly; what should I do?
a. Make sure tap is fully opened.
b. Make sure Handle is in full REWIND position.
c. Make sure leader hose and exit hose are not twisted.
8.The exit hose is too short for my use. Can I replace it?
Yes, you can replace the exit hose with any same diameter garden hose, of the length that you need.
9.What if my hose is very difficult to pull out or is stuck inside the reel?
a. Make sure handle is in REST and not REWIND position.
b. Make sure the exit hose is not twisted or blocked.
c. Open door and ensure that hose is not twisted or otherwise hinders drum motion in any way. If this was the reason, and seems to be a recurring problem, then it may be advisable to pull out the entire hose, release any kinks, and repeat initial watering hose connection process.
10.What is the range of water pressures that is adequate for Hydro Industries™ automatic hose reels?
The range is 40PSI minimum (2.5 bars/ atmospheres) to 150 PSI maximum (10 bars/ atmospheres). Please be aware that the AutoRewind models were designed to only be used with the pressure regulator (which is attached to the leader hose). The regulator ensures adequate water pressure for the reel's operation (3 bars/atmospheres).
11.When I unpacked my Hydro Industries™ automatic hose reel, I noticed a small amount of water in the box. Why?
All units are tested in the manufacturing plant (100% QA). As a result, a small amount of residual water is left in the unit (up to 1/4 cup).
12.Where can I obtain spare parts?
Please refer to the spare parts section on the website, where spare parts are shown for each of the models. Once you know what parts you would like to order, please fill out the form e-mail or fax it to our customer service department.
13.While watering, I get low watering stream/ flow; what should I do?
a. Make sure handle is in full REST position.
b. Make sure garden hose is not twisted inside or outside the hose reel. NOTE that low quality hoses may get kinked or squeezed more easily during the rewinding process, which will affect the outcoming flow rate while watering.
c. Make sure tap is fully opened.
14.Why is the hose stop needed?
The hose stop is there just in case you forget to stop the operation on time. It ensures that the end of the hose remains neatly outside the reel and is ready to use again.
15.Will the Hydro Industries' hose reel damage my garden hose?
No, the Hydro Industries' hose reel rewinds and sorts your garden hose without causing any damage or stress.
